What meds might children be taking these days that would disrupt sleep?
Stimulants, antidepressants, antihistamines, corticosteroids, some asthma medications (like albuterol) are some examples of meds that disrupt sleep.
Can you address the helpfulness or unhelpfulness of "headphones" in bed?
Would rather have a white noise machine instead, since there is discomfort that may come from wearing headphones
If neurodiverse children have good sleep hygiene (quiet home, minimal screen time before going to bed) and optimal environmental sleep conditions, how could we determine whether the “waking up in the night” might be caused by medications or the result of a neurally diverse brain/body chemistry?
The only way to tell would be to eliminate the other common sleep disrupters. The impact of neurodiverse brain will typically play a role but frequently other underlying factors could be missed if you are not on the look out for them.
